Noida, India: More than 300 million mobile phones will be produced in 2025

Due to the "Made in India" plan, the mobile phone manufacturing activity in Noida / greater Noida region is growing rapidly. By 2025, the region will produce 30% of about 1 billion mobile phones per year.
According to the data of ICEA, a mobile industry organization, there are about 80 mobile phone manufacturing plants operating in the region, with an estimated total employment of 50000 people. These 80 units produce mobile phones and mobile phone components, such as chargers / adapters, battery packs, etc.
During 2018-19, India produced 290 million mobile phones, most of which came from Noida/greater Noida region.

For example, South Korean technology giant Samsung opened its largest mobile phone factory in zone 81 last year. By 2020, the company will double its mobile phone production capacity in Noida from 68 million to 120 million per year.
Sumit walia, vice president of product and marketing of oppo India, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, said that oppo's goal is to double its production capacity to 100 million units by next year. Oppo currently produces 50 million smartphones annually at the casna plant in Grand Noida.
Vivo, another Chinese company, launched a new manufacturing plant in greater Noida earlier this month as part of its investment plan of about 75 billion rupees in India. Vivo plans to produce more than 33 million units per year, with a current output of 25 million units.

"Noida / grand Noida will become a global mobile phone and parts manufacturing center," Pankaj Mohindro, President of the Indian mobile phone and Electronics Association (ICEA), told Asia News Agency“ By 2025, we estimate that the output value of mobile phones will be 190 billion US dollars and the number of mobile phones shipped will be 1 billion. "
"We estimate that in four to five years, the parts and sub packaging industry here will grow by at least $20 billion to $25 billion," he said
One billion mobile phones are expected to export nearly 600 million. According to the national policy, electronic products have been set in 2019 to promote domestic manufacturing and export. Esdm (electronic system design and manufacturing) in the whole value chain will contribute to economic development and achieve a turnover of nearly 280 trillion rupees by 2025.
India currently has more than 450 million smartphone users, and this number is expected to reach 859 million by 2022.
In 2014, India had only two mobile phone manufacturing departments. However, driven by "made in India", India now has 268 mobile phone and accessories manufacturing units.
In fact, India is now the second largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world after China.
Mohindroo explained: "after 2014, mobile phone manufacturing activities have basically shifted to Noida / greater Noida, mainly because the region is close to the national capital and has enough space to carry out production activities at a faster speed."
With apple doubling its production of the new iPhone in India, it could change the face of Indian manufacturing.
"Apple has started producing mobile phones in India, including parts. They have started producing iPhones in India, as well as parts for export. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. I hope Apple has a strong presence in India. Samsung's strong performance in India. Apple is also involved in the story of India, "Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of it and telecommunications, told the media in September.
According to Cybermedia Research (CMR), in the third quarter of this year, BBK group, the parent company of oppo, vivo, realme and oneplus brands and headquartered in China, accounted for 42% of the smartphone market in India, almost equivalent to the sum of market share of Bubu Gao and Samsung.
ICEA data show that about 95% of the mobile phones sold in India are produced in India.
Mohindro said: "our domestic market is saturated relative to domestic manufacturing industry, and our goal is to export 7.7 trillion rupees by 2025."
